Lancaster University and Trans National Education jointly open Lancaster University Ghana in 2013. Since then the number of students has grown from 67 to over 500. The University's portfolio of 10 programmes matches the demands of the West African employment market, and includes foundation, undergraduate and master's courses. Students come from 15 nationalities, the largest groups being from Ghana and Nigeria. Due to growing student numbers the University sought additional space for its city campus while plans are underway for its permanent facility and campus.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Mark Smith (Vice Chancellor, Lancaster University) mentioned, “It’s very interesting how the system has managed to support us in making this next step of development. So what you seeing here is a long term programme of establishing a fully fledge university campus here in Ghana”. He added, “Lancaster University Ghana is an integral part of the Lancaster University family and we want to set the same standards here as we have set in the UK. You should never compromise on quality. If you compromise on quality, in the end you begin to suffer.

Guest speaker, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa noted that; “Lancaster University Ghana has the best environment for education. An environment with lots of possibilities and that provides real international student experience”. “We are very proud of what Lancaster University Ghana has achieved over the years”, he added.

The new campus is a state of the art learning environment that is designed to encourage faculty and student interaction. The new facilities also include a dedicated EMBA suite for the Lancaster University Executive MBA programme, a purpose built lecture theatre, tutorial and seminar rooms, along with additional offices for the University’s growing academic staff. The combined capacity of the foundation and undergraduate campuses will allow the university to grow up to 1,000 students across its foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate students.

In the closing remarks delivered by Raghav Lal (Executive Director, Lancaster University Ghana), he expressed his profound gratitude to Ghana's National Accreditation Board for the continued support since 2013 when the board officially welcomed the university into Ghana.
